Play and Disabilities

Play Beyond Differences The session on Play for Children with Special Needs and Circumstances deeply changed my understanding of inclusive education and the role of play in supporting every child’s development. Before the session, I often viewed disabilities mainly in terms of limitations and support needs. However, through the discussions, activities, and reflections, I realized that children with disabilities are capable learners who need opportunities, encouragement, and inclusive environments to explore, communicate, and succeed through play. One of the most meaningful ideas I learned was from Universal Design for Learning (UDL) , which explains that the problem is not the child but the curriculum when it fails to meet diverse learning needs. This shifted my thinking completely. I understood that teachers should provide multiple ways for children to learn, participate, and express themselves. Every child learns differently, and play can become an inclusive tool that supports...

Professional Dialogue

Exploring the World of ECCD My field visit to Rinpung ECCD Centre was a meaningful and eye-opening experience that helped me understand the relationship between play materials and children’s development. As I observed the enriching classroom environment and different learning corners, I realized that play materials are not just toys but important tools that support children’s cognitive, social, emotional, language, and physical growth. The classroom was filled with colourful, engaging, and child-friendly materials that encouraged exploration, creativity, and active participation. One of the most interesting observations was how the materials supported cognitive development . Children in the construction corner were using wooden blocks and loose materials to build houses, roads, and towers. Through this activity, they were developing problem-solving skills, creativity, and spatial understanding. This reminded me of Piaget’s Constructivist Theory, where children learn best by inter...

Theories of Play

Exploring Play Theories with Team Corsaro The gameshow session on Theories of Play was an engaging and meaningful experience where I was part of Team Corsaro . During the activity, our team explored William Corsaro’s theory of children’s peer culture and interpretive reproduction. We learned that children are active learners who create meaning through social interaction and play. As part of our presentation, we created a video demonstrating how children imitate and recreate real-life experiences through pretend play and collaboration. The video included Bhutanese classroom and cultural examples such as role play, and group activities. This helped us connect Corsaro’s theory with Bhutanese children’s everyday experiences. Reflecting on my experience with Team Corsaro , creating the video together became one of the most memorable and enjoyable parts of the professional dialogue session. Working with my friends allowed us to share ideas, laugh, collaborate, and learn from one ano...

Understanding Play

Exploring the World Through Play T he session on understanding play through experience helped me realize that play is not simply about fun or passing time, it is an important part of children’s learning and development. Before this session, I viewed play mostly as entertainment, but through the discussions and activities, I learned that play allows children to express themselves, build relationships, develop creativity, and understand the world around them. One of the most meaningful parts of the session was reflecting on childhood play memories. Sharing stories about games and activities from childhood reminded me that play creates joyful memories that stay with us for a long time. It made me think about how children feel happiness, freedom, and excitement during play. I also understood that these experiences shape children emotionally and socially. The activity on defining play was especially interesting because I realized there is no single definition of play. Different experts exp...
