Theories of Play
Exploring Play Theories with Team Corsaro
The gameshow session on Theories of Play was an engaging and meaningful experience where I was part of Team Corsaro. During the activity, our team explored William Corsaro’s theory of children’s peer culture and interpretive reproduction. We learned that children are active learners who create meaning through social interaction and play.As part of our presentation, we created a video demonstrating how children imitate and recreate real-life experiences through pretend play and collaboration. The video included Bhutanese classroom and cultural examples such as role play, and group activities. This helped us connect Corsaro’s theory with Bhutanese children’s everyday experiences.
Reflecting on my experience with Team Corsaro, creating the video together became one of the most memorable and enjoyable parts of the professional dialogue session. Working with my friends allowed us to share ideas, laugh, collaborate, and learn from one another while exploring Corsaro’s theory of peer culture and social interaction. As we planned scenes, discussed roles, and connected the theory with Bhutanese classroom experiences, I realized how teamwork itself reflected Corsaro’s idea that learning happens through interaction and shared experiences. The process was not only educational but also fun and meaningful because everyone contributed creatively, supported each other, and built confidence together. Through the video-making experience, I understood the importance of communication, cooperation, and friendship in creating meaningful learning experiences.
I also truly enjoyed watching presentations from other groups such as team Paley and the other theory groups because each team presented their ideas in creative and engaging ways. Some groups used storytelling, role plays, games, and in character theory explanation to explain their theories, which made the learning process lively and enjoyable. Watching different teams present helped me understand the theories from multiple perspectives and created a positive learning environment where everyone learned from one another through creativity, communication, and collaboration.
